The Indiana Railway Museum, the driving force behind the French Lick Scenic Railway, was originally founded in 1961 in the town of Westport, Indiana. The museum operated a tourist excursion with one locomotive, three passenger cars, and the assistance of about twenty volunteers. Over the years, the museum relocated to Greensburg before finally settling in French Lick in 1978, after the Southern Railway deeded sixteen miles of right of way stretching from West Baden to Dubois. The depot, along with French Licks hotels, has survived, providing the starting point for the French Lick Scenic Railroad.
